do I need to see a midwife for prenatal care?

I have more or less made up my mind to hire a midwife for delivery at a hospital. I am currently visitng an OB and am comfortable with her taking prenatal care of me and baby.

So my question is can a midwife just come to attend deliveries like doulas or we need to see them throughout pregnancy ? Also, I shall like the same OB to be there in case of complications.

Generally a midwife and an OB have the same purpose throughout pregnancy and delivery, so it is kind of redundant to use them both. Main difference being that a midwife would be with you during labor while an OB leaves that up to the nurses and steps in at the last minute to catch the baby. If you want to stick with your OB, then how about having a doula at the birth? If you go with a midwife, she can do all of your prenatal care, but if you have complications during delivery or need a C-section then the OB on call would step in. I gave birth in the hospital with a midwife with both my boys, and saw her for all my prenatal care.
