How do I write a letter of appreciation to a hospital?

April 13th, 2009 | by Rick |
PG asked:

I’d like to show my appreciation for how my doctor and his whole support staff (assistant, nurses, etc.) took care of me. Instead of just writing thank you’s to them, I would really like to write something to the head of the hospital to let them know what a great job they did. Any suggestions on how to do this or links to templates? Thanks!

Hospitals can use the input, and the staff often appreciates you bringing the fine job they do to the attention of the administration. I sent a letter regarding a specific nurse and sent a copy to her as well so she knew I had done it, writing a personal note - just a line - on her copy (something like “Thought I’d spread the word about how terrific you are!”). You do not need to get fancy. Just include the the name and address of the person you are sending it to (head of the hospital, in this case), then a statement of when you were in the hospital and who the staff was that you would like to acknowledge. Let them know what the specific people did for you, ie: made you feel more comfortable or at ease, took time to explain things to you - whatever they did that you would like to point out and how much you appreciate it. A paragraph or two is adequate. You can sign it “Sincerely” or “With Highest Regards.” What a great idea to do this!
    Best Wishes to You.

Writing to the head of the hospital… then you include all the names of persons you can recall tending to your care.

    Dear Dr. President:

I would like to let you know how much I appreciate the special care I was given by the physicians and staff of your hospital. In particular, I would like to thank .

My physician, Dr. Healsgood, was professional, kind, understanding, and the treatment was “right on.”

Assistant Dominic, Nurse Ratchet, Nurse MaryEllen, and Nurse Jonathan were all attentive to my needs, professional, and made my recovery so much easier to achieve.

You and your organization should be proud to have staff such as these people, and knowing that I live in your community, knowing the high-quality people here, makes my life so much better.

Thanks again, and have a happy and healthy New Year!

    Yours truly,

    Ms. VeryAppreciative

    There you go!

    Have a polite day.
