A hilarious clip from the Blackadder Goes Forth episode “General Hospital“. Blackadder is tasked with unearthing a spy in the hospital. Captain Darling arrives after being shot in the foot by General Melchett, who wanted a plausible reason for Darling going to the hospital as a patient.

That definitely is a classic. Blackadder and Monty Python are some of the funniest things I’ve ever seen on TV.

We British do enjoy a bit of mild racism. Nothing sinister, just playing on stereotypes. I dare say the Germans have a few jokes about the British.

It’s even funnier if you consider the fact that Queen Victoria wasn’t actually half German. She was 100% German :-)). Obviously her father, the Duke of Kent (son of George III and Charlotte von Mecklenburg-Steglitz), was a German, as mentioned by Blackadder. However her mother, Princess Victoria von Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld was also a German. And of course she married a German - Prince Albert von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha.

“So you’re father’s German, you’re half German and you married a German!?”

Best line in comedy ever. But it points out a painful truth. We’re British but we’re ruled by Germans. Even during the world wars we were ruled by Germans. It’s bloody ridiculous.
